cad
below is a selection of cad models I have created using rhino 3d and gemvision matrix.

gaudí brooch
-
Design a brooch or pendant inspired by Art Nouveau design featuring 2 oval Turquoise cabochons.
-
I chose Antoni Gaudí’s Casa Batlló as my inspiration for this Art Nouveau inspired assignment. I wanted to use the rhythm and rigidity of the straight lines to accentuate in contrast the fluid, organic, curvatures of the outline of the brooch.
bead rollercoaster 3 stone ring
a cad rendering of the bead rollercoaster 3 stone ring featuring a lapis lazuli, agate, and gold bead, and a green faceted trillion.
concept sketches for the bead rollercoaster 3 stone ring.
-
create a three stone ring. specifications for metal weights and finger size were provided.
-
I challenged myself with this assignment to create a non-traditional three stone ring, so that I could push the limits of my cad training beyond traditional mountings and create something more sculptural.
I was inspired by children’s bead rollercoaster/maze toys and wanted to use their form to introduce kinetic movement to my design. The resulting design features a green trillion stone bezel set stationary and situated on a lower “track” with a sweeping, curling upper “track” laced through a carved agate stone, a gold metal bead, and a lapis lazuli saucer-shaped stone. The red agate, blue lapis, and green trillion are the three stones. These stones plus the golden bead were selected for their primary color palette, again referencing the playful color palette of the bead coaster inpsiration.
tourmaline ring collection
-
Scenario: The GIA museum has acquired a set of five tourmaline stones that represent a rainbow of colors. The tourmalines were mined from Namibia, Mozambique, Brazil, and Nigeria. Your task is to design five right-hand rings that will emphasize each stone’s natural beauty—the gemstone should be the picture, and the ring the frame. Each ring should enhance, not overpower, the stone. Although the stones are all different colors and have their own personalities, they are all, in the end, tourmalines. You should consider these personalities when you are designing the rings. Think of each ring as a living piece and not as an inanimate object.
-
For this assignment, I used the country of origin of each gemstone to inspire the final design.
Left to Right:
The undulating form of the blue ring is inspired by the shadows created in the sand dunes of Namibia.
The green ring features architectural details from the colonial churches and sculptures in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The yellow ring takes inspiration from the Modern art movement’s interpretations of African sculpture, particularly the work of Constantin Brancusi.
The red stone ring takes inspiration from the graphic patterns of Nigerian wax print cloth.
The bi-color tourmaline ring
Please note: Some details in the final renderings would be applied by hand during the fabrication process, not built into the 3d model.
3 stone ring
-
Create a three-stone ring featuring a one-carat round center diamond and ruby side stones.
-
I was inspired by Etruscan and Roman jewelry forms. I wanted to create a piece that felt like ancient treasure, but with a nod to contemporary aesthetics. The heavy shank, high-carat gold, and granulation details are a nod to my historical inspirations and are balanced by the edgy contemporary details: setting the center diamond culet up, and utilizing bullet cabochons for side stones.
cad models based on spec sheets
these cad models were made to meet the design, size, and stone requirements provided in a spec sheet. these models are a reflection of technical skills and are not my own designs.
